(Round Rock, TX)– Today, Congressman John Carter (TX-31) announced $61 million in funding to renovate five additional barracks at Ft. Hood. These barracks are rated at Q4, the lowest possible quality rating. Last month, Congressman Carter toured barracks that were under renovation with Chairman Mac Thornberry of the Armed Services Committee, and stressed the importance of authorizing and funding barracks renovations, as well as motorpool and hangar construction.

“Thousands of soldiers call the barracks at Ft. Hood home, and it’s imperative that these men and women have comfortable and safe living quarters. As a representative of Ft. Hood, I’ve toured the barracks many times, and I have seen the dreadful conditions of some of these facilities,” Congressman Carter said. “Through my partnership with Ft. Hood leadership, we’ve been able to fund 24 barrack renovation projects at $296 million total so far. These renovations will not only improve quality of life, but they also help boost morale and readiness among our Soldiers. I look forward to continuing this mission.”

Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest active duty armored military installation in the free world. He serves as co-chairman of the Congressional Army Caucus and Chairman of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Appropriations.
