(Round Rock, TX) – Congressman John Carter (TX-31) has pledged his support for Congressman Kevin Brady’s Equal Treatment of Public Servants Act by cosponsoring the legislation. This bill will eliminate Social Security’s Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and replace it with a new formula that ensures teachers, firefighters police officers, and other public servants receive Social Security benefits based on work history. “This is a good bill for people that devote themselves to serving our community,” Congressman Carter said. “Teachers, firefighters and police officers deserve to be paid for their actual work history, and the current Windfall Elimination Provision has unfairly impacted these public servants. The Equal Treatment of Public Servants Act will bridge the disparity for those that earn Social Security benefits and a pension, and help ensure they are treated fairly by the system. Our teachers, firefighters and law enforcement officers sacrifice their time to help make our community a better place, and they deserve the benefits they’re owed. I hope to see strong support for this bill in the House and swift passage.” Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest active duty armored military installation in the free world. He serves as co-chairman of the Congressional Army Caucus and Chairman of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Appropriations. # # # |
