Congressman John Carter (TX-31) today announced his office’s participation in the Veterans History Project (VHP) through the Library of Congress. VHP gives Congress the privilege of collecting, preserving, and making accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans, so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war.

“The Veterans History Project is an important program to help us preserve the personal stories of our war heroes. Texas’ 31^st Congressional District has 84,000 veterans, and I’m excited to hear the stories these men and women that have bravely served our country have to tell,” Congressman John Carter said. “My office will immediately begin conducting interviews with any TX-31 veteran that is interested in having their history accessible at the Library of Congress.”

There are several ways to participate in the VHP, including a video or audio-recorded 30 minute interview, submitting 10 or more original photographs, letter, 2D artwork, or official military documents, or 20 pages or more of unpublished memoirs, diaries or journals. Please note, the Library of Congress only accepts original materials and cannot accept scans, photocopies, or reproductions of any kind.

Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest active duty armored military installation in the free world. He serves as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Appropriations, co-chairman of the Congressional Army Caucus, is on the Subcommittee for Commerce, Justice and Science and the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.
