Congressman John Carter (TX-31) introduced H. Res. 613, bipartisan legislation to provide America’s military men and women technical education and credentialing programs during their military service to prepare them to enter the civilian job market. “America’s military men and women are the greatest in the world, but the skills from the battlefield don’t always translate seamlessly into the civilian job market. Many veterans can find themselves without the education or vocational training necessary for employment once they’ve left the Armed Forces, but continuing education programs can help bridge the gap between military service and steady civilian employment,” Rep. Carter said. “Four out of the five fastest growing careers do not require a four-year college degree, but instead completion of a certification program. My legislation supports technical education programs and credentialing opportunities for our Armed Forces, so they can get well-paying jobs, without a college degree, after they finish their service.” This legislation is cosponsored by Rep. Sanford Bishop (GA-02), Rep. Dave Loebsack (IA-02), Rep. Roger Williams (TX-25), Rep. Tom Cole (OK-04), Rep. Denny Heck (WA-10), Rep. Lee Zeldin (NY-01), Rep. Mia Love (UT-04), Rep. Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), Rep. Roger Marshall (KS-01), Rep. Kevin Brady (TX-08), Rep. Kurt Schrader (OR-05), Rep. Glenn Thompson (PA-05), Rep. Tom Garrett (VA-05), Rep. Harold Rogers (KY-05), Rep. Beto O’Rourke (TX-16), Rep. Jim Costa (CA-16), Rep. Steven Palazzo (MS-04), Rep. Rick Crawford (AR-01), and Rep. Phil Roe (TN-01). Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest active duty armored military installation in the free world. He serves as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Appropriations, co-chairman of the Congressional Army Caucus, is on the Subcommittee for Commerce, Justice and Science and the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee. ### |
