KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Congressman John Carter honored 12 veterans at the 3rd Annual Congressional Veteran Commendation Ceremony on Saturday.

The ceremony was held at the Texas A&M University-Central Texas campus.

Each veteran was nominated for serving the country and also serving the Central Texas Community.

They have all have gone above and beyond answering the call to serve.

Some of the veterans have started non-profit organizations and helped children in the community.

Director of Communications for Congressman John Carter, Emily Taylor, says being in the same room with these gentlemen was an honor.

"These people are the ones that have been fighting for our country," Taylor said.

"And working for the area and just trying to make our community a better place."

Taylor hopes people will take more time out of their day to thank a veteran for everything they've done and continue to do.
