Carter Votes to Provide Relief to Community Banks, Credit Unions, Consumers Today, Rep. John R. Carter released the following statement following House passage of the Financial CHOICE Act which repeals many of the most damaging regulations implemented under the Obama era Dodd-Frank legislation. “Today I was proud to support legislation that will provide relief to our community banks, credit unions, and all consumers,” said Rep. Carter. “For far too long under Dodd-Frank, our small businesses and innovators have had their hands tied by overly burdensome regulations that allowed big banks to grow, and our community banks to falter. The vast majority of Americans, and our small businesses, rely on community banks and credit unions. Yet under Dodd-Frank, a community bank was closing every day. This is horrendous for our local economies, job creation, and consumers. Today’s action in the House puts us on a pathway to reviving community banks, opening the door to economic opportunity for Texas small businesses. This is good for central Texas, this is good for the American people, and this is good for our overall economic stability. I urge the Senate to take up this bill and pass it.” For more information on the Financial CHOICE Act, please visit: https://policy.house.gov/legislative/bills/hr-10-financial-choice-act-2017?utm_source=HouseGOP+Staff+List&utm_campaign=824a43bf25-Legislative_Digest1_5_2016&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f9e806e009-824a43bf25-132527849.
