Congressman John Carter (R-TX31) is releasing the following statement following the announcement that the United States Army will charge Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl with one count of desertion and one count of misbehavior before the enemy. “I commend the Army’s decision to charge Sgt. Bergdahl with desertion. The allegations and charges he currently faces demonstrate cowardice and his actions are an insult to what our soldiers fight and sacrifice for every day. Bergdahl’s actions placed his fellow soldiers at an unnecessarily grave risk and therefore aided the enemy. The President’s behavior was also unacceptable. The decision to trade five known Taliban terrorists for an Army deserter was a downright reckless move by this Administration. It was a decision based purely on the President’s desire for political points. I have no choice but to question yet again, President Obama’s judgment as the leader of our brave men and women in uniform and a leader of this great country.” #### |
