Carter Introduces School Security Enhancement Act in House

U.S. Rep. John Carter (R-TX) and U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) issued the following statements after reintroducing their School Security Enhancement Act in both the House and Senate last week.

U.S. Rep. John Carter (R-TX) and U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) issued the following statements after reintroducing their School Security Enhancement Act in both the House and Senate last week.

Rep. Carter: “As a grandfather to six and father to two public school teachers, I know how important it is that our schools are safe. The School Security Enhancement Act is a step forward to protect the well-being of students and teachers. This bill puts strong emphasis on listening to educators and gives schools the autonomy to do what is best for their students, instead of a one-size-fits-all approach. I am glad to partner with Senator Cruz to ensure the safety of our children and loved ones at school.”

Sen. Cruz: “I’m proud to introduce this legislation to empower schools and local leaders to make America’s classrooms safer. Expanding the use of SSAE grants will equip schools with additional resources to prevent tragedies and let education and local leaders choose the safety infrastructure technologies that work best in their communities.”

Background on the School Security Enhancement Act:

The School Security Enhancement Act allows Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE) block grant funding to be utilized for school safety infrastructure and technology. The legislation will allow SSAE grants to be used to provide necessary security measures like trained officers, emergency alert systems, and bullet-resistant doors and windows but also has the flexibility to give local education stakeholders and parents more of a say in how to best protect their own students.
