Washington, Sep 28, 2005 -  Today, U.S. Representative John R. Carter (TX-31) was appointed to the Homeland Security Appropriations Conference Committee, which will determine the final funding for the Department of Homeland Security for FY'06.

"It is an honor to be appointed to the conference committee. At this time in our nation's history, with two devastating hurricanes and a War on Terror, much has been placed on the shoulders of the Department of Homeland Security." Carter continued by saying, "We need to make sure that this department has the resources it needs to do their job while being fiscally responsible. This is a task I look forward to taking on."

The House and Senate have both passed their versions of H.R. 2360, and it is now the responsibility of the conference committee to iron out the differences. Congressman Carter has been on the appropriations committee since January 2005 and serves on the Military Quality of Life and Veterans Affairs, Homeland Security and Foreign Operations subcommittees
