Carter to Present Posthumous Bronze Star and Purple Heart to World War II Veteran

(GATESVILLE, TX)  – U.S. Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX31), Chairman of the House Army Caucus, will present the Bronze Star and Purple Heart posthumously to the daughters of World War II veteran PFC James W. Rhoads this morning at Peacock River Ranch.  Carter, along with First Army General West commander Maj. Gen. Perry L. Wiggins will present the awards to Patty Hollingsworth and Roxie Greenway.

PFC Rhoads Background Information
Rhoads was born Dec. 24, 1919, in Athens, Texas and was inducted into the Army April 15, 1942, in McGregor. He was wounded Nov. 15, 1944, near Metz, France, while serving as an automatic rifleman with Company C, 1st Battalion, 379th Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division. Rhoads was honorably discharged from the Army May 17, 1945. He was a car salesman for many years, then worked in the maintenance department of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice until his retirement in 1984. He died March 17, 1999.
