GOP FY 2013 Budget Plan Passes House 228-191; Obama Budget Fails 414-0 In a rare display of unanimous bipartisanship, House Republicans and Democrats joined to reject the Obama Administration budget by a 414-0 margin, before approving the Republican Path to Prosperity Budget Plan by a 228-191vote. “This House has spoken on the nations’ budget, and I am proud that we did so while giving every faction within this body a fair debate and vote on their alternate proposals,” said House Republican Conference Secretary John Carter (TX31). Prior to final passage of H.Con.Res.112, the Path to Prosperity Act, House Leadership allowed debate and votes on President Obama’s Budget proposal, which failed to gain even any Democrat votes and called for massive new tax increases; the Democratic Leadership budget proposal; a bipartisan plan submitted by moderate Republicans and Democrats; and a stronger conservative plan by the Republican Study Committee, the organization of the most conservative House members. The Path to Prosperity Act totaled $3.53 trillion for Fiscal Year 2013, holding discretionary spending to FY2012 levels. Spending reductions to achieve the goal targeted everything from revamping Medicare to reducing spending on food stamps and transportation. Over ten years, the plan would reduce spending by $5.3 trillion compared to the president’s budget and by $4.15 trillion compared to CBO’s current law baseline. The House today also passed H.R. 4281, the Surface Transportation Extension Act of 2012, by a vote of 266-158. The bill would extend the authority to appropriate funds from the Highway Trust Fund (HTF) for federal highway and surface transportation programs for 90 days, through June 30, 2012, allowing current federal highway projects to continue while Congress continues debate on a new five-year plan. ### www.house.gov/carter |
