Carter Calls for Review of South Temple Post Office Closing

Congressman John Carter (R-TX31) says the U.S. Postal Service is wrong to close down 20 private contract post offices that provide good service and revenue to the Postal Service while posting $8.5 billion in losses, and that the decision should be reversed.

“Even though the United States Postal Service was 8.5 billion dollars in the hole in 2010, and the owner of the South Temple Post Office sends a one million dollar check each year to the Postal Service, the Union made a contractual agreement with the Postal Service to close 20 of these locations down,” Carter said on the House floor.  “This is just plain wrong, my constituents should have a choice as to what post office they want to use, and if a privately owned contract office is performing better and easier to use, they should be able to use that location over a main branch.”

Carter says he will continue pushing the Postal Service to re-open the South Temple, Texas branch.
