For immediate release: December 20, 2011 House Bill Recognizes Heisman Trophy Winner Robert Griffin III Watch Instant Replay: RGIII Heisman Resolution on CSPAN 2011 Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III will be honored for his athletic and academic achievements in winning the nation’s highest college football honor through House Resolution 498 by Congressman John Carter (R-TX31). “Robert Griffin III has demonstrated the highest level of hard work and success both on and off the field,” says Carter, who represents Griffin’s home town of Copperas Cove, Texas. “He deserves not just his Heisman award but also recognition from the House for his academic determination, which is what college is all about. The fact that our 2011 Heisman winner is also an outstanding academic is a very important message for all of our young people.” Robert Griffin III was born to United States Army Sergeants Robert Jr. and Jacqueline Griffin on a military base in Okinawa, Japan, and played quarterback at Copperas Cove High School. Griffin this year led Baylor University to a #12 Bowl Championship Series ranking. Griffin received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Baylor in December 2010 with a 3.67 GPA, and is currently pursuing a Masters in Communication while continuing to quarterback the Baylor Bears.
