Washington, Jun 7, 2005 -

Today U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31) praised the House Appropriations Committee for providing $2.2 million for improving information technology backup systems for our nation’s military, known as the Marine Corps Coop. The funding is included in the Department of Defense FY 2006 Appropriations Bill, which passed the committee today.

“We need to take the appropriate steps toward securing our military’s IT systems,” said Carter who requested the funding this year and last.

This funding will continue to provide the resources needed to maintain a remote site to mirror IT operations and backup all Marine Corps’ IT operating systems.

“When our personal computers break down it disrupts our life and we lose invaluable information and work.” Carter continued by saying, “Can you imagine if the same happened to our military? It’s a security concern that this funding will help address.”
