U.S. Congressman John Carter (R-Temple, Round Rock) today noted significant repairs to the recreational areas at Temple and Stillhouse parks.  Carter reaffirmed his commitment to continue to support repair efforts for the areas still in need of repairs.

“There is no doubt that the unprecedented floods of last summer have left many of our lake’s recreational areas devastated,” Congressman Carter said.  “However, it is reassuring to see that the Corps of Engineers responded so quickly to get a portion of these parks open for the Easter weekend.  I want to assure my constituents that I am continuing to work closely with local, state and federal officials to make sure our lakes and parks are back up and running as soon as possible.”

According to the Corps of Engineers, repairs were made to most recreational facilities at Temple and Stillhouse parks permitting them to be open for the past Easter weekend.  Westcliff, located at Belton Lake, Union Grove and Dana Peak Parks, located at Stillhouse Hollow Lake, are still closed due to flood damages of 2007.

Earlier this year Carter toured the flood damaged areas and worked with the Corps of Engineers to ensure funds were available for the opening of Temple and Stillhouse parks.  Carter recently requested federal funds in the FY09 Energy and Water Appropriations bill for lake repairs in Bell County.
