Washington, Oct 18, 2007 -  U.S. Congressman John Carter (TX-31), House Republican Conference Secretary, issued the following statement today after he voted to sustain the President’s veto on the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).

“Republicans believe we should focus on providing poor children with health insurance. The Democrat bill expands health coverage to adults, children in families earning over $60,000 and in some cases over $80,000 and illegal immigrants. Now that the veto has been sustained, I hope the political games are over and we can work together in a bi-partisan manner on a compromise that will ensure America’s needy children get the coverage they need.”
