Washington, Oct 11, 2007 -

U.S. Congressman John Carter (TX-31) today announced that the Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12, which includes Falls and Hamilton counties, has received a $338,936 grant to expand current distance learning capabilities. In addition to expanding current opportunities, ESC Region 12’s grant will allow them to provide new access for many additional sites in rural areas of Central Texas.

“These federal funds will be integral in improving student achievement in Central Texas,” Congressman Carter said. “Region 12’s work benefits our communities and strengthens our state. I am confident this grant will give them the ability to support many more Texas students and educators.”

The Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) Grant and Loan Program is designed specifically to meet the educational and health care needs of rural America. Rural development funds will be used to expand current distance learning capabilities and provide new access for 30 additional sites in rural areas of central Texas and southern Oklahoma. It will provide expanded course offering and access to college preparatory course as well as presenting teaching staff with additional training and certification opportunities.
