Washington, Oct 2, 2007 -

U.S. Congressman John Carter (TX-31) today announced that the city of Temple has received a $524,136 grant for community development. The funding was awarded through the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program.

“I am proud to represent the city of Temple and congratulate them on receiving this grant,” Congressman Carter said. “As the Representative for Central Texas, I know what a great impact this grant will have on families who live in Temple. These funds will provide housing for many Central Texans who are in need of assistance, and it will aid in expanding economic opportunities in Temple.”

The CDBG program provides annual grants to states and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low-and moderate-income families.
