Washington, D.C., Jul 17, 2007 -

U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31), a member of the Appropriations Committee, announced that the House has included funding for projects he requested for Tarleton State University during the Labor, Health & Human Services, Education and Related Agencies (LHHS) appropriations full committee meeting last week. The bill includes $200,000 thousand for Tarleton’s Rural Nursing Education Program.

“This is the first step in securing additional support for Tarleton’s premier nursing program,” Congressman Carter said. “These funds will go to help meet the health needs of the rural Texas population around Tarleton State University by training nurses in the area at two satellite nursing school programs with onsite faculty and live interactive tele-video conferencing. It will also serve as a model of how to effectively deal with the nursing shortages in rural areas.”

Passage of the bill in full committee is the first step to ensure that these important funds are provided to the nursing program at Tarleton. This week the House is expected to take up the LHHS Appropriations Act, where, if passed, the bill will continue to the Senate for further consideration. If passed in the Senate the bill will proceed to the Conference Committee where both Houses of Congress will create a compromise bill to be presented to the President to be signed.
