Grant will benefit Taylor ISD Washington, DC, Aug 14, 2006 - U.S. Congressman John Carter (TX-31) has announced a grant totaling $1.68 million that will benefit Taylor ISD, as well as Austin ISD. The Transition to Teaching grant is being awarded to the Region XIII Education Service Center, which is partnering with Taylor and Austin Independent School Districts. This five year grant from the U.S. Department of Education will assist in efforts to recruit and retain high school math and science teachers. Region XIII Education Service Center is working with the University of Texas and Skill Point in offering training and support to educators. “By investing in our teachers and students, we are investing in the future of our nation. This federal grant will give students in Central Texas the training they need to succeed in a 21st century economy,” Congressman Carter said. “The Education Service Center will work with Taylor ISD to accomplish this by implementing project-based and problem-based learning. I applaud the Education Service Center for their hard work to ensure our children receive a quality education.” Region XIII Education Service Center is one of 20 service centers that serve the Texas educational needs. We are a non-regulatory agency; our relationship with school districts is collaborative and supportive. The purpose of this agency is to support teachers and administrators in educating Texas children. |
