Washington, DC, Jun 19, 2006 - U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31) has announced that a $40,000 grant has been awarded to the Tarleton State University Police Department from the Department of Homeland Security. The funding is made available through the Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP), which assists smaller law enforcement and emergency response agencies by providing them with equipment items which will improve their response capabilities. “This federal funding will allow the Tarleton State police to better protect the students and faculty in and around the university,” Congressman Carter said. “Assistance provided through this homeland security program has greatly improved our nation’s law enforcement capabilities.” The Tarleton State Police Department will use this grant to purchase new video detective equipment for the department. Funding for CEDAP was included in the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act. Congressman Carter serves on the Homeland Security Appropriations Committee, which has oversight over funding for the Department of Homeland Security. ###
