Representative John Carter (TX-31) released the following statement after voting against the Senate’s gun control bill.
Representative John Carter (TX-31) released the following statement after voting against the Senate’s gun control bill. “In cities across the country with some of the strictest gun control laws on the books, we continue to see gun violence. Just yesterday, the Supreme Court rightfully struck down New York’s gun control law limiting carry rights. Strict gun control measures like that one did nothing to curb gun violence, instead, they only impacted law-abiding responsible gun owners. “The Constitution is clear that the Second Amendment shall not be infringed, and unfortunately, the Senate’s gun control legislation has several concerning provisions that will encroach upon law-abiding Americans’ constitutional rights. While I support the mental health and school safety provisions in this legislation, I cannot support these gun restrictions that unduly take away the rights of responsible gun owners, because of the actions of criminals. Instead of supporting gun control which will have little impact on the actions of criminals hellbent on breaking the law, I will continue to stand up for the Constitution and work to find solutions to expand mental health services and support school safety.” |
