Washington, Dec 20, 2005 -

U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31) today announced that Bell County has been awarded a grant for $2.1 million to cover costs related to Hurricane Katrina relief. Specifically, the grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will reimburse Bell County for interim housing costs for evacuees, including rental, utilities, unit deposits, furniture and household goods, as well as management costs.

“The people of Bell County have been extremely generous with their time and talents in order to help the displaced victims of Hurricane Katrina. The ongoing support of Bell County has been critical to the rebuilding efforts in the Gulf Coast.  I am pleased that FEMA has recognized the efforts of communities throughout Bell County by awarding this $2.1 million reimbursement grant,” Congressman Carter said.
