Carter Responds to President Obama's Final State of the Union

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, Rep. John R. Carter released the following statement in response to President Obama's State of the Union address.

 – Today, Rep. John R. Carter released the following statement in response to President Obama’s State of the Union address.

“Tonight, President Obama delivered his final State of the Union address to the American people. Unfortunately, it was filled with his tired, liberal rhetoric of class warfare and larger government, without any ideas or solutions to restore American prosperity.”

“He again touted his failed foreign policies that have led to the rise of ISIS instead of laying out a strategy to defeat terrorism. We will never defeat radical Islamic terrorism if the President is not even willing to say the words and continues appeasing state sponsors like Iran. We cannot win this war by leading from behind.”

“The President also talked about the economy. What he failed to tell you is that we have one of the lowest worker participation rates in American history and Americans still have not seen an increase in their wages. Fewer people are participating in the job market than ever before, taking home less pay, and the President is inflating employment rates to support his false narrative.”

“In Texas, we are fortunate to have a strong economy and low unemployment, but it has nothing to do with President Obama. In fact, Texas’ economy is strong despite the failed over regulation, big government policies of President Obama and the Democrats. Our Texas economy is strong as it was built on pro-growth, low tax, conservative principles. Policies Republicans in Congress have passed, but the President has failed to adopt.”

“President Obama would also like you to believe that Obamacare is working. If his goal was to hurt small business and raise healthcare costs on millions of hard working Americans, then yes, it is working. This past week President Obama stood by his failed policies and vetoed a bill passed by both the House and the Senate that would repeal Obamacare. This is just another example of President Obama ignoring the will of the American people.”

“The President said we must put politics aside, yet he has politicized every tragedy we have faced, every policy he has proposed, and he has played politics with our military and national security. He ran on the idea of being a uniter, yet we are more divided than the day he took office almost seven years ago. And, he talked about embracing change, and our future. I believe we are ready for change, a change in the occupant of the Oval office.”

“I am thrilled that this is the last time the American people will have to listen to President Obama deliver another empty State of the Union address. For the past seven years he has promised to raise our taxes, take away our freedoms, and apologize for being America. What he has brought us is a nation that is less secure, with a more porous border, and a weaker economy with fewer opportunities for our children and grandchildren.”

“I join the millions who are ready for a new direction in this country, one based on conservative, constitutional values that will strengthen our national security, secure our border, and promote pro-growth economic policies.”

“Republicans in Congress are working on real solutions to secure our border, defeat terrorism, and protect and preserve our Constitution. I’m proud to bring fiscally conservative Texas values to Washington, D.C. By lifting the regulatory burden on families and job creators, we can make government more efficient and accountable to hard-working taxpayers and unleash the innovative spirit that drives American entrepreneurship and success. Cutting spending, lowering taxes, and reigning in the federal government is the blueprint for long-term economic growth.  I wish I could call President Obama an ally in these efforts.”
