Project Name: Gatesville, TX Hughes Elevated Water Storage Tank
Project Recipient: City of Gatesville, TX
Project Recipient Address:  803 E. Main St. Gatesville, TX 76528
Amount Requested: $970,000
Purpose: I request $969,800 to replace the City of Gatesville’s Hughes elevated water storage tank.  Despite its condition, which has been deemed by the City Engineer to be on the brink of failure, the tank serves as a vital asset to both residents and commercial operations in the area.  Not only does the elevated tank distribute water to the City’s utility system, but it also diminishes the necessity for pumping stations and associated energy costs, as well as serves as a reserve of water that could prove indispensable during emergencies, such as power outages, pump failures, or natural disasters. This critical request would be a wise use of federal tax dollars as the water tank plays a crucial role in maintaining consistent water pressure, a factor of paramount importance for firefighting, irrigation, and domestic use alike.  Moreover, it contributes significantly to maintaining water quality by safeguarding against contamination from surface sources and preventing backflow.
