ROUND ROCK, T.X.- Congressman John Carter (R-TX31) is proud to announce a student in his district received the Congressional Award Silver Medal. Travis Purser, who graduated from Cedar Ridge High School in Round Rock, achieved the Silver Medal after logging over 400 hours of Voluntary Public Service to the Boy Scouts of America.

The Congressional Award was established in 1979 as a way to recognize the service and achievement of young people. In order to receive the Congressional Silver Medal, Purser taught younger scouts, planned activities like mountain biking, kayaking and community service. He also decreased his three-mile distance running time by 10 minutes, traveled on a 10-night backpacking trip and became certified in Wilderness and Remote First Aid.

Participants must set goals in four areas:
Voluntary Public Service- Providing a service to others and to the greater community
Personal Development- Developing personal employment and social skills
Physical Fitness-Improving quality of life and health through physical fitness
Expedition/Exploration- Undertaking an outdoor or wilderness experience

Travis stated in his record book, “This award has given me the opportunity to push myself, set goals and achieve those goals.”

Congressman Carter congratulates Purser on his commitment. “Travis has already received the Bronze Congressional Award, demonstrating his commitment to making his community, himself and the life of those around him better. I am proud that he has continued that selfless commitment to receive the Silver Congressional Award.”
