Carter Includes Language to Tackle Zebra Mussel Infestation

Representative John Carter (TX-31) included language in the FY20 Interior Appropriations bill to pursue technologies to aide in the elimination of invasive zebra mussels, which have plagued Central Texas lakes for years.

Representative John Carter (TX-31) included language in the FY20 Interior Appropriations bill to pursue technologies to aide in the elimination of invasive zebra mussels, which have plagued Central Texas lakes for years.

“Texans know that zebra mussels are wildly destructive to boats, other aquatic life, and the water supply, and aggressive actions are needed to eliminate this invasive species before further damage is done,” Rep. Carter said. “My language encourages the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to pursue new technologies to eliminate zebra mussels without the addition of chemical agents. This problem requires unique solutions to ensure the protection of our lakes and water supply, while also eliminating these pesky critters that have infested many of our Central Texas lakes.”

Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest active duty armored military installation in the free world. He serves as co-chairman of the Congressional Army Caucus and Ranking Member of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Appropriations.
